Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to bring a wave of strong hybrid cars to the Indian market in the coming years. With fuel efficiency and sustainability becoming key priorities, the carmaker plans to roll out several new models with its in-house developed hybrid technology. These upcoming cars aim to offer high mileage and reduced emissions without compromising performance. Here’s a look at five strong hybrid models expected from Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid
The Fronx will be the first Maruti car to debut the brand’s indigenous strong hybrid powertrain. It’s expected to launch in early 2026 and will be powered by a 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine coupled with a series hybrid system. In this setup, the electric motor drives the wheels, while the petrol engine functions mainly as a generator. This system is designed for maximum efficiency, with expected fuel economy figures between 35 and 40 kmpl. Positioned as a compact crossover, the Fronx Hybrid will likely appeal to urban commuters looking for style, space, and superior mileage.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Hybrid
Following the Fronx, the popular premium hatchback Baleno will also receive the strong hybrid treatment. It is expected to hit showrooms around Diwali 2026. The Baleno Hybrid will share the same 1.2-litre Z12E engine and strong hybrid configuration as the Fronx, ensuring similar fuel economy levels. With rising fuel prices and increasing demand for efficient hatchbacks, the Baleno Hybrid is likely to become a hot seller in its segment.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid
Maruti’s best-selling hatchback, the Swift, is also set to enter the hybrid era. The new-generation Swift Hybrid is expected to be launched by the end of 2027. It will also use the same strong hybrid setup, targeting fuel efficiency in the 35–40 kmpl range. While the new Swift already comes with improved mileage and features, the addition of strong hybrid tech will make it even more attractive to budget-conscious buyers.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza Hybrid
The Brezza will be the first Maruti SUV to get the homegrown strong hybrid system. Its launch is expected sometime in 2028. With the 1.2-litre Z12E engine and hybrid setup under its hood, the Brezza Hybrid will deliver significantly higher fuel efficiency than the current petrol-only version. Maruti aims to position it as a smart urban SUV that balances power, space, and eco-friendliness.
Maruti Spacia-Based Hybrid MPV
Maruti is also working on a compact MPV based on the Japan-spec Spacia model. This sub-4-meter mini-MPV is expected to arrive in 2027 and will use the same hybrid powertrain as the other upcoming models. Targeted at small families, the Spacia-based MPV will offer ample space, comfort, and a fuel economy of up to 40 kmpl, making it a strong contender in the compact MPV space.
Looking Ahead
Maruti Suzuki plans to have at least six strong hybrid models in its portfolio by 2030. The company expects to sell around 8 lakh units annually from these hybrid offerings, combining its in-house system with Toyota’s Atkinson-cycle hybrid tech. As India moves toward greener mobility, Maruti’s upcoming strong hybrid cars are set to play a key role in the transition.
