As per the October 2025 Vahan data, Tata Motors retailed 7,905 units more than Mahindra and 9,660 units more than Hyundai.

Tata Motors has surged past Mahindra and Hyundai to take the second position in India’s passenger vehicle (PV) market for October 2025, according to VAHAN retail data. The homegrown automaker registered 74,705 units, marking one of its strongest monthly performances this year and reflecting a powerful festive season rebound.

Tata Motors’ Strong October Momentum

After several months of steady competition, Tata Motors outpaced its rivals with a sharp jump in retail sales. The company recorded 81 percent month-on-month growth, rising from around 41,000 units in September to 74,705 units in October. The surge was fueled by high festive demand and competitive price revisions introduced following recent GST changes.

Tata’s SUV-heavy portfolio — including bestsellers like the Nexon, Punch, Harrier, and Safari continued to draw strong interest. Models such as the Altroz and Tiago further contributed to consistent demand across segments, helping the brand expand its reach beyond major metros.

Price Revisions Drive Festive Demand

A key contributor to Tata Motors’ success this month was the price reduction of up to ₹1.55 lakh following the government’s GST rate cut on select vehicles. The brand quickly adjusted prices across its lineup, attracting more buyers during the festive season. Dealers also reported improved footfall, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, supported by flexible finance schemes and increased vehicle availability.

Mahindra and Hyundai Maintain Strong Growth

Despite being edged out by Tata Motors, both Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India recorded impressive sales. Mahindra retailed 66,800 units, supported by strong demand for SUVs like the Scorpio, XUV700, and Bolero Neo. Hyundai followed closely with 65,045 units, driven by consistent interest in the Creta, Venue, and Exter.

While all three brands reported around 75–80 percent month-on-month growth, Tata’s diversified portfolio and timely pricing moves gave it a clear advantage in October.

EV Momentum Continues for Tata

Though VAHAN data does not separately list electric vehicle sales, Tata Motors remains the undisputed leader in India’s EV market. Its growing range including the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Nexon EV — continues to draw buyers looking for affordable and reliable electric mobility solutions. The company’s ongoing efforts in charging infrastructure and local EV manufacturing are also contributing to its long-term dominance in this segment.

Industry Sees Festive Boost

The broader Indian passenger vehicle market witnessed a strong rebound in October 2025. The festive period of Navratri and Diwali traditionally brings increased bookings and deliveries, and this year was no exception. Automakers benefited from high customer sentiment, easing supply-chain constraints, and extended retail offers across dealerships.

Analysts note that the combination of revised prices, wider product options, and new launches made October one of the most successful months for the industry this year. The competition among leading OEMs also reflects how dynamic India’s automotive landscape has become, with new players constantly reshaping market rankings.

What Lies Ahead

With the festive season rush tapering off, the focus now shifts to sustaining volumes through the last quarter of the year. Tata Motors’ strong October performance underlines its ability to respond quickly to market trends and consumer expectations. Its growing EV presence and upcoming product updates could help maintain momentum into 2026.

However, Mahindra and Hyundai are not far behind. Both manufacturers have multiple launches lined up in the SUV segment, setting the stage for an intense battle for the No. 2 position in the months ahead.
