Electric Two-Wheeler Sales May 2026
India’s electric two-wheeler market continued its strong growth momentum in May 2026, with retail sales crossing 1.70 lakh units. The segment registered impressive year-on-year growth as more customers shifted towards electric mobility due to rising fuel prices, better charging infrastructure, and a wider range of electric scooters.
According to the latest retail sales data, TVS Motor Company retained its position as the country’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer, while Bajaj Auto remained close behind. Ather Energy continued its strong performance, and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida brand recorded the highest growth among leading players.
Electric Two-Wheeler Sales Grow Over 62%
The Indian electric two-wheeler industry recorded total retail sales of 1,70,733 units in May 2026. This represents a growth of nearly 63 percent compared to 1,04,896 units sold during the same month last year. The segment also witnessed healthy month-on-month growth, highlighting increasing consumer acceptance of electric mobility.
The growth has been driven by expanding dealership networks, improved battery technology, government incentives, and the launch of new electric scooter models across different price segments.
TVS Remains the Market Leader
TVS Motor continued to dominate the electric two-wheeler market in May 2026. The company retailed 42,459 electric scooters during the month, recording a strong 64.54 percent year-on-year growth.
With a market share of nearly 25 percent, TVS maintained a comfortable lead over its rivals. The success of the iQube range and the company’s expanding EV portfolio have helped it strengthen its position in the rapidly growing segment.
Bajaj Chetak Continues Strong Performance
Bajaj Auto remained the second-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country. The company sold 39,202 units in May 2026, registering an impressive 73.14 percent growth over the same month last year.
The popular Chetak electric scooter continues to attract buyers thanks to its premium design, strong brand value, and expanding availability across India. Bajaj’s market share stood at nearly 23 percent, narrowing the gap with TVS.
Ather Energy Doubles Sales
Bengaluru-based Ather Energy delivered one of its best performances in recent months. The company retailed 28,240 electric scooters in May 2026, exactly doubling its sales compared to May 2025.
Ather’s year-on-year growth crossed 100 percent, while its market share reached over 16 percent. The strong demand for the Rizta family scooter and the 450 series has played a major role in the company’s growth.
Hero Vida Records Massive 158% Growth
One of the biggest highlights of May 2026 was Hero MotoCorp’s Vida brand. Hero Vida recorded retail sales of 19,067 units, a massive 158 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
This was the highest growth rate among the leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers. Vida’s market share climbed above 11 percent, making it one of the fastest-growing EV brands in India. The increasing popularity of the Vida scooter lineup has helped Hero strengthen its presence in the electric mobility space.
Ola Electric Faces Challenges
While most manufacturers reported strong growth, Ola Electric remained the only major player to register a decline in sales.
The company sold 15,141 units in May 2026, down by more than 20 percent compared to May 2025. Despite showing improvement compared to the previous month, Ola’s market share fell below 9 percent, placing it behind TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Hero Vida.
Smaller EV Brands Also Expand
Several emerging electric vehicle manufacturers also posted strong growth during the month.
Greaves Ampere sold 7,695 units and recorded nearly 78 percent growth. River EV achieved one of the highest growth rates in the industry, with sales increasing by over 245 percent. BGauss also more than tripled its sales compared to last year.
The performance of these brands shows that India’s electric two-wheeler market is becoming increasingly competitive, giving customers more choices than ever before.
EV Penetration Continues to Rise
Electric two-wheelers accounted for approximately 9.25 percent of total two-wheeler retail sales in May 2026. This is a significant improvement compared to 6.11 percent in May 2025.
The growing adoption rate indicates that Indian consumers are becoming more comfortable with electric vehicles. Factors such as lower running costs, improved charging infrastructure, government support, and rising fuel prices continue to drive demand for electric scooters across the country.
